US Roadtrip

US Roadtrip is one of those subjects that returns every year, albeit in different versions. It is a subject that investigates American culture and the diversity within this. Politics, economy and history have often played a big part in subject content for these travels and included destinations such as New York, Washington, Atlantic City, Philadelphia and the many smaller towns the road have led students and teachers to for a night or two. Some focused on youth culture, with a 5-day exchange with an American high school - others have focused on cultural long hauls in the West, where nature became a primary focus point. There is much to explore!

US Roadtrip  - Exploring the Southwest

America is a land of extremes and contrasts. The trip will try to balance two extremes (big cities and life in the countryside) spending some time in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and spending some time driving through the vast landscape the Southwest has to offer, visiting National Parks and the Indians lands.

Culturally, in the city we will try to arrange a High School visit (perhaps with our cheerleader friendship school St. Paul), visit Venice Beach (absorbing LA’s youth culture), visit the Largest Buddhist Temple and Pagoda in USA (perhaps comparing/contrasting that with Christian and Native American Beliefs), visit American Native Museum.

On our road trip we will visit both Native Americans (Indians of the Spanish Mission in Santa Barbara, Navajo, Hopi, Apache, Zuni) and the ruins of the Ancient Ones (Anasazi in the Southwest). We will visit various National Parks where the land is being ‘saved’ for future generations; look at water supplies and energy sources for the Southwest.
